What are the requirements of the Fire Safety Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2010?

  • Ensure a fire risk assessment is carried out on the premises.
  • Consideration of who may be especially at risk.
  • Eliminate or reduce the risk form fire as far as reasonably possible and provide
general fire precautions to deal with any remaining risk.
  • Where 5 or more people are employed, or a licence or registration are required, any
significant findings following the fire risk assessment are to be recorded along with any actions
taken to reduce or eliminate these risks.

The fire risk assessment to be reviewed regularly. The Northern Ireland Fire Service advise that it is reviewed yearly and after there has been any significant change to the property, i.e. a change to the layout, increased numbers of staff, changes to equipment within the building, or after a “near miss” incident.
