Security and fire safety solutions for facilities managers

Why do facilities professionals choose NSI approved security and fire safety companies?

As a facilities manager (FM) you play a vital role in providing a safe, comfortable environment for all those who use your workplace. Ensuring the security and fire safety measures within your working environment are fit for purpose and implemented in proportion to the associated risks and needs of all concerned is paramount.

Trusted Third Party Certificated providers are often an FM’s preferred choice, providing reassurance that your legal responsibilities have been fulfilled, including those related to fire safety and health & safety requirements.

Electronic Security Systems

Professionally installed security systems are the most efficient and cost-effective way of maintaining safe and secure buildings. A number of options are available to you, some of which may be required by your insurer.

NSI operates two approval schemes for security system installers: ‘NACOSS Gold’ and ‘Systems Silver’, both of which are recognised by the police and insurer communities.

NSI Gold approved companies not only comply with applicable industry standards and NSI Codes of Practice, but additionally operate in accordance with a unique security-related NSI Quality Schedule and an ISO 9001 Quality Management System. This means NSI Gold approved companies provide assurance over and above competences demonstrated by some other certification schemes.

Fire safety

Responsibility for fire safety in a building including fire safety systems and life safety rests with the ‘Responsible Person’ or ‘Duty Holder’ under the following legislation:

  • The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 in England and Wales
  • The Fire Scotland Act 2005
  • The Fire & Rescue Services (Northern Ireland) Order 2006/Fire Safety Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2010.
  • Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022

Carrying out a “suitable and sufficient” life safety fire risk assessment (LSFRA) lies at the heart of establishing robust fire prevention, protection and suppression measures as well as safe evacuation measures to be applied in the event of an incident. This is a legal requirement of the ‘Responsible Person/Duty Holder’, a role often assigned to FMs.

Third Party Certificated providers, such as those holding NSI approval (incorporating BAFE registration) signify they are professionally managed and technically competent, signing up to an ongoing programme of independent audit.

Security Services

If you are looking to integrate a security guarding service element into your workplace, then hiring a professional company is essential to ensure a safe environment for all users.

Companies carrying NSI’s hallmark of approval are industry specialists, regularly audited to verify compliance with International and British Standards and NSI Codes of Practice.

NSI approval is the recognised hallmark of excellence in security services with the majority of the UK’s top security services firms being certificated by NSI.
