Guarding Gold
NSI’s premier security guarding services scheme is designed for companies who meet the industry’s highest technical standards and maintain a commitment to continual improvement with an ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
Guarding Silver
NSI's Guarding Silver scheme is designed as a stepping stone towards Guarding Gold.
It requires companies to meet the same high level of technical competence as the Guarding Gold scheme.
Scheme overview
NSI Guarding approval is a compliance-driven scheme which appeals to the elite in the security services sector. It is built on British Standards and NSI Codes of Practice, which compliant companies adhere to. They are amongst the best providers of private security services in the United Kingdom.
Creating and operating a 24/7 security service to manage any and every eventuality – with trained, capable staff, and infrastructure – demands that service providers have the knowhow, dedication and culture to deliver a guarding service of the highest standard.
The majority of NSI Guarding approved companies combine their NSI approval with SIA ACS via the NSI Passport scheme.

Approval by NSI requires inspection to recognised British Standards/Codes of Practice. Before an inspection for approval can take place, companies should ensure they have a copy of the appropriate Standard.
Relevant British Standards and International Standards are available to NSI approved companies and applicants through our Online Standards Subscription Service or hard copies and electronic copies can be purchased through NSI at a preferential rate.
SIA Approved Contractor Scheme (ACS) Passport Route
NSI is able to provide a route to ACS approval through our Passport Scheme. Find out more about SIA ACS approval.
NSI approved companies providing services for Security Guarding, CCTV, Door Supervision, Keyholding, Close Protection, Cash and Valuables in Transit services and Vehicle Immobilisation (N.I.) may choose the Passport option.
Passport Route

Passport offers qualifying companies the additional option to gain ACS approval by meeting NSI Passport specification requirements. They then avoid the cost of separate assessments.
