NSI at IFSEC – A key destination hub for the installer community

NSI is partnering one of the new event features developed based upon the specific needs of installers, a series of ‘Show Me How’ sessions presented by exhibitors. These will provide installers with short, succinct presentations and demonstrations bringing to life the latest technologies, technical and industry updates.

As a ‘Show Me How’ partner, NSI will be delivering two 15 minute interactive talks on its stand, F538, on Tuesday 19th and Wednesday 20th of June:

At 11:30 installers are invited to join Mark Gallagher, NSI’s Technical Officer, for a session on ‘User-focused design of CCTV systems and NSI’s Code of Practice NCP 104’. Attendees will gain first-hand insight into the update on standards associated with video surveillance and NSI’s perspective on CCTV design and additional user requirements, with specific reference to the adoption by NSI approved companies of NSI’s recently revised Code of Practice NCP 104.

At 14:00 Mark Gallagher will talk about ‘Safe Automated Gate Design – How to Minimise Your Risk’ providing a thought-provoking snapshot of the common pitfalls and legal responsibilities involved with automated gate design and the effective ways in which these can be minimised for the benefit of both clients and installers/maintainers.

NSI experts have also been called upon to deliver presentations in the main seminar theatres:

Tony Weeks, NSI’s Head of Technical Services, is sharing the research findings from a new study commissioned by NSI and conducted independently by Perpetuity Research on the potential public benefits from automating the transfer of alarm signals to Police and other emergency services. The research is intended to inform the debate about how best to deliver a fully automated electronic call handling service with the aim of helping to reduce the response times and improve accuracy of emergency services to confirmed alarm activations. Tony Weeks will be sharing the findings at a presentation at 14.20 on Wednesday 20th in the Future of Security Theatre.

NSI’s Head of Field Operations (Systems), John Davidson, will take to the stage at FIREX in the Expertise and Guidance Theatre at 12:05 on 20th June and the FPA Infozone at 11am on 21st June.  The audience will hear about the most common and serious issues fire risk assessors are coming across right now and the value of contracting competent fire risk assessors who have the requisite third party certification.

NSI auditors will be part of the adjudicator team in the national competition for apprentice installers which takes place over the three days at IFSEC.   Now in its 20th year, the Engineers of Tomorrow competition has been broadened to include a fire safety skills test, so the competition is aligned more closely with the new Apprenticeship Standard – the ‘Fire, Emergency and Security Systems Technicians Apprenticeship’, created by employers from the sector. Working in pairs, apprentices have the chance to win a top cash prize of £1000.

As a founding stakeholder of the competition, NSI is proud to be associated with such an important initiative which showcases exceptional talent of the future  NSI’s Chief Executive, will be presenting the heat winners’ prizes in the Keynote Arena at 4pm on Wednesday 20th June, following introductions by Frank Gardner, security journalist – not to be missed!

The NSI team will be welcoming visitors to the stand, along with the much loved NSI owl!  As a key destination point at IFSEC, the team will be sharing industry updates and best practice guidance with NSI approved companies and welcome those interested in finding out about the benefits of NSI approval.  Also, at 4pm on Tuesday 19th June, NSI warmly invites NSI approved companies to a drinks reception where guests are invited to raise a glass in celebration of NSI’s 20th anniversary of independence.

Richard Jenkins, NSI Chief Executive comments:

“We are delighted to be an IFSEC partner once again and encourage NSI approved companies and others to attend this progressive event and to make the most of the unrivalled knowledge and experience under one roof.  Our team of experts will be on hand ready to welcome visitors to our stand and to our seminars, sharing a wealth of expertise about Standards, future industry initiatives and the value of independent certification.  We look forward to spending valuable time with industry colleagues old and new.”
