British Standards Institution (BSI) is revising the Event Stewarding Code of Practice (BS 8406), inviting public comment until 11th June 2020.
Originally launched in 2003, the BSI Standard provides recommendations for the infrastructure, staffing, training, operation and management of organisations providing stewarding, including the support of safety at events.
Whilst BS 8406 is aimed at organisations providing event stewarding services on a contracted basis, its provisions and guidelines could be equally applicable to those companies operating an in-house service provision.
The changes reflect the way security providers want to use British Standards, such as making provision for smaller events where compliance might over burden limited budgets.
NSI has issued a Circular Letter regarding the revision to NSI approved companies who provide event stewarding services and will provide them with information at a later date about any transition period, audit and implementation requirements.
