Annual Neighbourhood and Home Watch week

Neighbourhood Watch schemes make a valuable contribution to ensuring the communities we live in are safer and more friendly environments.  The time given voluntarily by the various groups around the country make a significant contribution in the fight against crime.

This week  (15-23rd June) is the annual Neighbourhood and Home Watch week. This campaign is held annually to co-incide with the summer solstice and helps raise awareness.  More information on Neighbourhood and Home Watch can be found via www.ourwatch.gov.uk.

Neighbourhood Watch schemes have been running since 1982 when they started in Cheshire.  It has now expanded in to a truly national network across England and Wales.  The interaction of the groups with their respective local police helps ensure local residents access relevant and specific advice and updates.

General advice for domestic homeowners can also be found in the ‘Information Centre’ area of the NSI website within ‘Information for homeowners’. This area includes a free downloadable guide.
