NSI Highlights Critical Role of Evacuation Alert Systems in UK Fire Magazine

In the August edition of  UK Fire magazine, John Davidson, NSI Approval Schemes Manager, discusses the pivotal role of Evacuation Alert Systems in high-rise residential buildings, driven by post-Grenfell fire safety reforms.

In the article, John highlights how the need for verified competence in fire system installation and maintenance led BAFE to introduce the Evacuation Alert Systems Scheme SP207 in 2020. Organisations holding dual NSI certification and BAFE registration for the Evacuation Alert Systems Scheme demonstrate that their contractors meet the highest standards, ultimately enhancing the reliability and effectiveness of these life-saving systems.

Evacuation Alert Systems, now recommended in high-rise residential buildings following post-Grenfell legislative changes, provide a vital tool for Fire & Rescue Services (FRS) when the “stay put” strategy is no longer safe. These systems empower the FRS to issue targeted evacuation alerts quickly and efficiently, prioritising the safety of residents.
