NSI on the PSTI Act

In the latest edition of Professional Security magazine, Matthew Holliday, NSI’s Director of Technical Services & Field Operations, highlights the escalating challenges of cyber-resilience. As  installers, integrators and distributors of internet-connected security equipment, such as networked CCTV cameras and alarms, it’s crucial to stay informed about the new legislation designed to protect consumers from cyber-attacks and hacking.

Matthew discusses significant financial penalties for unresolved breaches, which can reach £10m or 4% of worldwide turnover. These penalties are enforced by the Office for Product Safety and Standards, part of the Department for Business and Trade, overseeing the UK’s product safety regulations.

The PSTI Act, an integral part of the government’s National Cyber Strategy, aims to safeguard the UK online, covering all ‘simple’  internet-connected products. As the UK’s premier Certification Body in the security and fire safety sectors, NSI urges installers to understand PSTI’s important implications as part of our role in strengthening industry compliance and professionalisation.

NSI is also enhancing its efforts to counter cyber security threats by developing a certification scheme covering compliance with ISO/IEC 27001:2022 for information security management systems which will address the growing demand for cyber-resilience solutions and ensure compliance with contract tender specifications.
