It is important that all individuals engaged in the surveying, designing, installing and maintaining of electronic security systems to meet the requirements of PD 6662: 2017 should be aware of the basic contents of the Standard for Installation, EN 50131-1, and the document containing Alarm Systems Application Guidelines, DD CLC/TS 50131-7. Also, where required, those individuals should have an understanding of BS 8243, Intruder and Hold-Up Alarm Systems designed to generate Confirmed Alarms. Maintenance of intruder alarms is an essential aspect of the electronic security industry and therefore an understanding of BS 9263, Commissioning, maintenance and remote support – Code of practice, is most important

Who should attend?

System designers, installation, commissioning and maintenance engineers who need to be able to demonstrate their competence in the tasks they carry out.  This course is designed for those who are, or will be, involved in the specification, provision and maintenance of intruder alarm systems designed to meet the requirements of PD 6662: 2017.

Course content

  • To give an introduction to the contents and layout of standards
  • To indicate any areas where there are known problems and what action can be taken to resolve these
  • To give guidance on the industry’s interpretation of various aspects of the standard
  • To indicate how BS 8243 will relate to the new standard
  • To introduce the requirements of BS9263 – Commissioning, maintenance and remote support for intruder alarm systems.

Course outcomes

On completion of this course delegates should:

  • Have a good understanding of the recommendations contained within EN  50131-1 + A1:2009 and DD CLC/TS 50131-7: 2006 and the interrelationship between these two documents
  • Appreciate any areas where there are known problems and what action can be taken to resolve these
  • Have a sound knowledge of current confirmation techniques for Intruder and Hold-up Alarm Systems as specified in BS 8243.
  • Understand commissioning and on-site or remote maintenance requirements based upon the contents BS 9263

General Information

This course has been developed by NSI, whose aim is to provide the security and fire industries with relevant, effective and quality training solutions.

Training courses are held at NSI headquarters in Maidenhead, Berkshire.

Delegates will receive a Certificate of Attendance in addition to course notes and supplementary documentation. Those attending will be expected to take an interactive part in the training course, with practical exercises for group or individual participation.  Exercises are based on situations that may arise with a company designing, installing and maintaining electronic security systems.
