/ NSI Annual Drinks Reception at IFSEC International Celebrating 20th Anniversary of Independence

07 June 2018

The National Security Inspectorate (NSI), announces its annual IFSEC International drinks reception, will be held on Tuesday 19th June at 4pm on stand F538.

This year the reception is to celebrate NSI’s 20th anniversary of independence from the Loss Prevention Council when it took responsibility for its own strategic direction, continuing its path as a highly respected impartial inspectorate in the security sector, free of  financial interest from shareholders, as a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee.

Richard Jenkins commented: “We are delighted to be once again supporting IFSEC and FIREX as the most successful shows in our sector. Our drinks reception celebrates the significant 20-year milestone of NSI independence, demonstrating the confidence and high regard stakeholders and approved companies alike place in the integrity of NSI’s independent certification in the security and fire protection sectors, and the underlying message to customers that the industry is serious about quality and service.

“We look forward to welcoming our stakeholders, approved companies and invited guests to raise a glass to the next 20 years of NSI independence.”

The drinks reception is just one of the ways in which NSI will be supporting and engaging with representatives from its approved companies and industry colleagues at this year’s IFSEC.

NSI Speakers at the shows will be covering the following topics: best practice in CCTV systems, pitfalls to avoid with powered gates, continuing automation of alarm signalling, and fire risk assessment.

A ‘Show Me How’ session on ‘User Focused Design: Update on NSI’s NCP 104 Code of Practice for CCTV Systems’ will take place on the NSI stand at 11.30am on Tuesday 19th and Wednesday 20th June.

A ‘Safe Automated Gate Design – How to Minimise your Risk’ session follows at 2pm on Tuesday 19th and Wednesday 20th June.

A presentation Automating the Transfer of Alarms to Emergency Services: Maximising Public Benefits, will see Tony Weeks, Head of Technical Services at NSI, share recent research findings from the NSI commissioned research independently conducted by Perpetuity Research at 2.20pm on Wednesday 20th June in the Future of Security Theatre. The research has been hailed as instrumental in informing the debate about how fully automated electronic call handling to the police can help to reduce the response times and improve accuracy of signals from confirmed alarm activations, in line with the aims of the NPCC.

Fire safety in your building: The most common and serious issues fire risk assessors are coming across right now is the subject NSI’s Head of Field Operations (Systems), John Davidson will be covering at 12.05pm on 20th June in FIREX’s Expertise and Guidance Theatre and at 11.00am on 21st June in the Infozone on the FPA Stand.

Now in its 20th year, the Engineers of Tomorrow Competition is supported by NSI auditors judging the work of competing teams of apprentices each of whom will be installing security and fire safety systems against the clock under exam conditions.

NSI’s Chief Executive Richard Jenkins will be presenting some of the prizes on Wednesday 20th June in the Keynote Theatre at 4pm, following introductions by security journalist Frank Gardner.
