NSI is licensed by BAFE to deliver a range of its fire-related third party certification schemes and sees fire sector approval as an important growth area for the organisation. BAFE Schemes available through NSI are:
- Fire Detection and Alarms (SP203-1);
- Fixed Gaseous Fire Suppression Systems (SP203-3);
- Emergency Lighting (SP203-4);
- Contract Maintenance of Portable Fire Extinguishers (SP101)
- Life Safety Fire Risk Assessment (SP205).
Organisations seeking BAFE registration are required to be independently audited through a UKAS approved certification body. As a specialist Certification Body in the fire and security sectors, organisations are choosing the NSI route to take advantage of its value-added audits and to benefit from increased specifier recognition.
The 400th company registered is Fowler Martin, Chartered Building Services Consultant Engineers situated in Ingatestone, Essex. They have achieved BAFE registration for Fire Detection and Alarm Systems SP203-1 and Emergency Lighting Systems SP203-4. For a company with principal areas focussing on the design of mechanical and electrical services for the commercial and public sector, the BAFE standard and NSI approval are a marque of competence to provide these services.
Simon Ayres, Director of Fowler Martin comments:
We are extremely happy to have NSI certification and BAFE registration linked to our design work with alarms and emergency lighting systems. We found the process with both NSI and BAFE to be exceptionally thorough which only increases our confidence in being associated with these bodies. It is another string to our bow to promote our quality services and provide evidence of this from our third party certification.
Richard Jenkins, NSI Chief Executive adds:
Over 1800 UK and Eire-based organisations have chosen NSI for their security and fire safety certification. As an independent specialist certification body, our team of full-time auditors are well placed to guide organisations through the application process for NSI approval and BAFE registration.
We are delighted that 400 BAFE registrations have been achieved through NSI. It is a key milestone for our two organisations and we look forward to working with many more fire safety businesses who are looking to demonstrate competence and professionalism to their clients via third party certification.
Stephen Adams, Chief Executive of BAFE provided the following comment
Thanks to the commitment to quality by our registered companies and our partners in the certification bodies, including NSI, this scheme has tripled in size over the last five years. Many public sector and private organisations now recognise SP203 as the main criteria when specifying their fire protection requirements.
